Joan Smalls looks very interesting on the cover of Vogue Italia and is the first black model in the past 4 years to be put on the cover. The last time a model of color appeared on the cover was in July
2008; Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, and
Liya Kebede covered the famous “All Black Issue".
The editorial & cover is shot by Steven Meisel and is titled "over the top" and promises "crazy & colorful styling" This GIF was released on their website:
..cant wait for the full editorial to be released!

I've always found it very interesting that Vogue Italia seems to be the champion of "Black" in "fashion". Props to Franca Sozzani

2 commentary:
It is interesting... is the theme ghetto-afro-fab meets high fashion? I am not keen on this issue... coincidentally I just read an article (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2002798/James-Brown-John-Galliano-Fashion-industry-racist-goes-right-core.html?ITO=1490) addressing racism in the fashion industry prior to your post. It’s sad that 4 years later a black model featured on Vogue Italia has to adorned in long ghetto nails & shiny plastic ½ blonde curly afro hair; It’s a new age black face. I don’t usually pay much attention to things like this, but after reading that article today (pure coincidence) I found myself highly sensitive to this issue. =/
wow i haven't even seen the issue yet & i totally agree with ^^, by seeing the two pictures it reminded me of the movie with halle berry BAPS (BLACK AMERICAN PRINCESS) & i guess this part of what they think of black women, it's funny how i've never seen a white trailer trash "fashion" editorial...sorry not feeling this
