I have always been inspired by Marian Kihogo, long before the advent of Blogs, twitter or Facebook.

We were friends on the then RAD social media network Hi-5, I instantly noticed that she never dressed like anyone else, her outfits were always so interesting and stylish and came from a very original point of view.

Back then, there were very few African girls/women I knew who were SUPER passionate about fashion and style, so naturally, we gravitated towards each other.

Years went by, Hi-5 died, Facebook was born and so was our fashion line Cranberry. Marian would leave supportive comments on the blog we created to chronicle the creation of our line, and we would equally do the same on hers which was based on her life as a stylist.

Last year I rediscovered Marian Kihogo after we resumed blogging, this time on 4ACES.

I was doing my daily fashion rounds and came across an interview on Vogue Italia with a picture of a woman styled to the gOD's, and all I could think was, who is this Fierce lady and why does this woman looks SO familiar?!

I clicked on the accompanying link to the picture, and it was to her blog, and like that I was Hooked.

Marian's blog chronicles her life as a stylist but also lends a view into her unique style and fashion inspirations. I have always admired the ability to be an individual, to be daring and to be intensely original when it comes to fashion.
The ability to put together different pieces of clothing with different cuts and textures to make a synergistic look, is a talent that is possessed by only a few and Marian is one of them.

We met Marian last year in fall, during NYFW and it was a great to play catch up after so many years of absence.
She is an absolute darling, and we heart.

Sickening style.

I was inspired to do this post after I encountered an irate derisive comment on a snapshot image I posted of Marian's NYFW outfit.

A lot of people might not understand this "look" but that is fine because the people who are meant to appreciate it, do.

There is a very "pure" universal element of style which runs through individualistic expressions of fashion, and is instantly noticeable to those who know what to look for.

Not everyone can understand or apply a difficult equation.

I dub her one of the most original and fashionable African women in style today and you can quote me on that.

"Klein, an alumnus of FIT (Class of 1963), made a $1 million donation through the Calvin Klein Family Foundation, which was then matched by a $1 million donation by Calvin Klein Inc. The donation represents the largest gift that FIT has ever received from an alumnus. With a 10-year commitment, the funds will support the college’s annual spring runway show, which showcases the capstone designs of students who are about to graduate with a bachelor of fine arts degree in fashion design. The show provides FIT students with a chance to present their talents to industry professionals, established designers and the media. This year’s runway show will take place May 2 at FIT."

The annual amFar Gala to raise money for AIDS research, prevention and education took place last night in New York City.

The stars came out in all their finery to show support for the cause.

Miss Universe Leila Lopes looked absolutely stunning in a beautiful red gown.

Michelle Harper went as..herself.

I say she looks Fab in a total.. couture... goth way.

Joan Smalls looked AMAZING.

I love the tuxedo cut of the dress and I love that she pulled her hair back!

Her makeup though isn't....err...(trying to be positive here)

Carrie Bradshaw!! she will always be Carrie to me!

I love SJP and I love this look white gloves and all!

It's such a pretty dress and that necklace (or neckline) is stunning!

I know she is going for some idea with this look and frankly it IS stylish, but I am going to have to pass on this one.

A little black dress is one of the MUST have staples in a woman's closet.

I found this dress randomly in Macy's two weeks ago, tried it on and it fit perfectly!

Perfectly in that the dress does all the work i.e it acts like a body shaper! it lifts and tightens! :D

It's a very simple dress but I feel quite sexy in it. Grrrr.

My shoes and Jacket are from Zara, (the mini fur stole I bought separately and pinned it to the Jacket Lapel)

Fashion week is around the corner yall!! *whew* not sure if I am ready!!

Ever since Rihanna debuted her blonde shaggy new do, we have seen her tweak up her style game to fit the look.

I am on the fence as to whether or not i'm digging it, what do y'all think, is it hot?

This look is BOSS.

She is wearing an Armani jumpsuit she helped design.

Her body looks gorge but I am on the fence about this look because of her HAIR.

Imagine if she had this look on with her black haircut?

Sigh.

I miss that hairstyle on Rihanna.

This look is so shaggy blonde bombshell think Goldie Hawn.....its cute..

Overall I am excited to see Rihanna styling, in my opinion, she hasn't really been as ON IT as she used to be, which I put down to her penchant for changing her image to fit her new album.
All the same, she is always gorgeous and wears everything with such confidence it is pretty difficult to ever hit her with a HOT MESS tag, swag.

Yesterday I attended a photo exhibition at Terra Kulture which is a cultural center in V/I Lagos by Lakin Ogunbanwo titled "Masks" which depicts different people in different situations with masks covering their faces. It was a very interesting exhibit showing off the young photographers talent which he honed in school in Paris. It was a great turnout, and I am sure we will be hearing/seeing more from him in the future. Pics of the event & guests:

We love what our girl Ajak wore to the Sidaction Gala dinner (Diner de la mode) last week, held at the Pavillon d'Armenonville in Paris, France.

Diner de la mode is a fundraising dinner held annually by Sidaction, a French organization dedicated to fighting AIDS.

She is so gorgeous in this lovely black and white geometric print dress, pairing a monochrome look with a color block shoe is great choice!

As part of his promo for the new Karl by Karl Largerfeld line, Net-a-Porter released this video of Karl Largerfeld interviewing himself. Nice to know he has a sense of humor and blood running in those veins and is not some mythical fashion superhero from another planet!

Some excerpts from the video:

Natural Hair Update : 8 months growth!!!

I got a reader request for an update on my natural hair so here it goes --->

I cant believe its been 8 months since I "big chopped" aka cut all my hair off to go natural. When I first cut my hair I had less than one inch of growth, the hair was mostly permed bits at the top, which I slowly cut off as I gained more growth.

Going natural? ---> Best decision ever!! This is actually my second time attempting to go natural, the first time I knew NOTHING about natural hair, and I had no blogs or youtube tutorials to serve as guides. I knew nothing about hair products, regimens, oils and so on. All I knew was that I loved the way girls looked with their natural hair and I wanted to look like that. I can confidently say I will NEVER put a perm in my hair again... I much prefer having thick healthy hair that grows to my former abused thinning weak permed hair. My 8 month check in:

My hair regimen is pretty simple i dont like to fuss too much, or become obsessed with growth and all that. I deep condition my hair once a week, wash whenever I feel my scalp getting itchy lol, and I moisturize once or 2ce a week (or whenever laziness permits).

Moisturizers: Biolage leave-in cream, Wave Neuveau moisturizer, Shea butter

Oils: I alternate between Olive oil, Hot six oil and Argan (morrocan) oil

I don't use any special conditioners or shampoos *shrugs*

I put my hair in braids (sparingly), full head weaves (which i was very hesitant to do at first cos I've always thought them ugly... turns out..not so bad!) and wigs, so my hair is pretty much in plaits 90% of the time.

And thats pretty much it!!!

Go natural! I promise you won't regret it :D:D:D

I was hoping your readers could help me clear this little problem i have. See i love my roommate, I've known her for about 12 years and she's is one of my best friends. She's fun, loving and reliable. She has been there for me through thick and thin, took me in when i lost my job, i lived rent free with her for about 10 months and she never asked me to pay her back. But recently i started seeing someone and thing are sort of heating up between us, we just became exclusive after 6 months of dating and he's always over at our apartment because his new apartment isn't ready yet. I've noticed some strange things lately that i don't like and i'm not sure if i'm going crazy and becoming paranoid or if my suspicions are real. First thing I noticed is that my roommate/best friend seems to always be around when he's around, when we're watching a movie in the living room she's there, having dinner in the dining room she's there, or hanging out on the balcony... she's always in the apartment.
